Bahria University is playing a significant role in providing affordable education to youth of Pakistan. Its Lahore Campus established the Leadership Development Center, a program for basic to advance computer trainings and education. This program excels in the development not only for students, but for faculty and staff too. Here, we discuss the type of programs offered in this center.
Faculty Development Academy
The Faculty Development Academy’s mandate is to provide training courses on soft and hard skills for faculty in areas of proposal writing, submission, research activities, solicitation of research projects, innovative teaching methodologies, use of software etc. Furthermore, opportunities are being created for faculty of Bahria University in collaboration with industry and HEC for best teaching practices like Micro Teaching and Heuristic Method of teaching. LDC regularly organizes “Faculty Orientation and Training Program” (FOTP) to keep newly inducted faculty members abreast with least innovation in teaching pedagogues and to acclimatize them in BU environment.
Student Grooming Program
Leadership Development Center has also been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing Student Grooming Program at campus level for all students with special emphasis on graduating students. The program is tailored to develop and hone employ-ability and life skills.
Professional Development Center
The mandate of Professional Development Center is to establish Industry Database for future cooperation on various projects, collate the faculty expert area database for enhancing and utilizing internal strengths, holding workshops, conducting short duration professional training, workshops and organizing short term certificate and diploma programs for professionals.
Leader’s Lounge
LDC has also widened its media footprint by mean of mass media. A program by the name of Leader’s Lounge is being aired via FM-102.6 Voice of Bahria Radio Channel. The show is lighthearted on the surface but caters to some contemporary academic and professional leadership challenges.
Succeeding in the Professional World
LDC takes Immense pride in some of its initiatives that are exclusively a feature at Bahria University. One such initiative worth mentioning is “Succeeding in the Professional World” (SIWP) for women. This is a talk series which is “By the women for the women” and caters to the understanding and discussing the unique challenged of the working women in Pakistan.
In Pakistan, a huge percentage of the population cannot afford basic education and therefore cannot match the skill requirements for many jobs — this leads to both unemployment and poverty. Bahria University took a significant step by showing willingness to provide university resources such as computer labs, lecture halls and classrooms with an aim to address the issue of illiteracy in Pakistan.
